One in six fatal crashes involves a drowsy driver. While most people are aware of the dangers related to driver drowsiness, our capacity to identify early signs of fatigue is very limited and further decreases as fatigue progresses. Traditional methods to monitor sleepiness in drivers rely on vehicle-behavior-based technology or driver-behavior-based systems, such as eye-tracking. These methods however only allow detecting microsleep once it occured.
BrainGuard is an innovative technology to detect fatigue of drivers immediately. It proactively monitors the brain to identify early signs of drowsiness. In case, BrainGuard detects fatigue, a warning alarm is generated to enable an intervention before the driver can fall asleep.
